LG Group Orders Acceleration of AI Transformation (AX)

The LG Group recently held a CEO meeting where Chairman Koo Kwang-mo called for the acceleration of AI Transformation (AX). Chairman Koo defined Artificial Intelligence (AI) as the 'second electricity' that will reshape the industrial landscape, emphasizing the importance of speed across the entire company. He stated, "Rather than perfect plans, rapid execution is key to accumulating small successes in high-impact business areas and then expanding them." He also likened the impact of AI to the introduction of electricity and the internet, stressing that AX is not a task for a specific department but one that CEOs and business leaders must directly guide.

Strengthening Governance Transparency and Underlying Reasons

Simultaneously with accelerating AX, the LG Group has also moved to enhance governance transparency. LG Corp.'s board of directors resolved to transition to an 'outside director chairman system,' with Chairman Koo Kwang-mo stepping down from the board chairman position he held for eight years. Park Jong-soo, an accounting and tax expert and outside director, was appointed as the new chairman of LG Corp.'s board. This decision is seen as a strategy to secure new growth engines and strengthen internal and external trust through enhanced governance transparency, especially as the group's core businesses like TVs, home appliances, batteries, and displays face intensifying competition and pursuit from Chinese companies. With this change, all 11 listed affiliates, including LG Corp., now operate under an outside director chairman system.
