Korea Southern Power Adopts AI CCTV for Plant Safety Management
Full Adoption of AI-Based Safety Management System
Korea Southern Power (KOEN) announced on the 27th that it is the first public institution to expand the adoption of its Vision-Language Model (VLM) based AI CCTV video analysis system across all its facilities, shifting its safety management paradigm from human-centric to artificial intelligence (AI)-centric. This initiative aligns with the government's drive to become a leading AI nation and create a society where life and safety are prioritized, transforming traditional human-centered monitoring into an AI-driven automated system.
High Detection Accuracy and Expansion Plans
KOEN reported that a pilot program, which introduced 100 AI CCTVs at the Yeongheung Power Plant construction site in February last year, significantly improved abnormal sign detection accuracy from below 50% to 93%. Building on this success, the company is currently conducting a second phase of the project, focusing on high-risk sites, and applying the AI analysis system to a total of 1,300 CCTVs. By September, an additional 5.3 billion KRW will be invested in a third phase to establish an AI video analysis system for all 3,195 CCTVs. Cho Young-hyuk, Acting President of KOEN, emphasized that the company will actively utilize the latest technologies to realize safe and smart power plants.
