LDP Party Ticket Scandal: Prosecutor Demands ¥1.5 Million Fine for Former Diet Member Ono Yasutada
LDP Party Ticket Scandal: Prosecutors Seek Penalties
Ono Yasutada, a former member of the House of Councillors belonging to the former Abe faction of the Liberal Democratic Party, and his former secretary Iwata Yoshiko have been indicted for failing to declare party ticket revenue in their political funding reports. The two defendants are accused of not listing approximately 51 million yen in revenue from party tickets, which was reportedly kicked back from the faction. Both have maintained their innocence throughout the proceedings.
Prosecution Emphasizes Social Impact of False Reporting
During the trial held at the Tokyo District Court, the prosecution argued that "false entries over many years have caused public distrust in politics, and the social impact is extremely significant." Consequently, the prosecution sought a fine of 1.5 million yen for Ono, and considering her "subordinate position," a fine of 500,000 yen for Iwata.
