PM Takaichi Meets IEA Chief, Requests Preparation for Additional Oil Release
PM Takaichi Requests IEA for Additional Coordinated Oil Release Preparations
Prime Minister Takaichi met with International Energy Agency (IEA) Executive Director Fatih Birol to request preparations for additional coordinated oil reserve releases, should military conflicts in the Middle East be prolonged. PM Takaichi stated that many Asian countries are facing significant difficulties with oil supply, and expressed her desire for the Takaichi Cabinet to collaborate closely with the IEA to protect the lives of citizens and industries.
IEA's Past Actions and Executive Director Birol's Response
The IEA had previously decided on a record release of approximately 400 million barrels of oil in response to Iran's de facto blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. During the meeting, Executive Director Birol reportedly responded to PM Takaichi's request by stating that additional coordinated releases could be considered if necessary, underscoring the importance of international cooperation for stabilizing the global energy market.
