Former Tokyo Metropolitan Police Officer Sentenced for Leaking Investigation Information
Former Sergeant Found Guilty of Leaking Investigation Data
On March 25, the Tokyo District Court sentenced former Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department organized crime division sergeant Daisuke Jinbo (44) to one year and six months in prison, suspended for three years. Jinbo was accused of leaking sensitive investigation information to 'Natural', a prostitution scouting group under investigation. Last year, Jinbo allegedly sent images from surveillance cameras and a list of filming locations to individuals associated with 'Natural', thereby compromising the ongoing police investigation.
Court Cites Erosion of Public Trust in Police
The Tokyo District Court emphasized in its ruling that, as an active police officer, Jinbo was obligated to strictly safeguard investigation information. The court stated that his actions, which involved leaking highly confidential data, "significantly damaged public trust in the fairness of police duties." Furthermore, the court noted that "given the target of the investigation was a large-scale and illicit scouting organization that was strongly urged for exposure, the magnitude of the social impact caused by this crime cannot be overlooked," leading to the guilty verdict.
