Lebanese PM Accuses Iran's IRGC of Directing Hezbollah Operations
Iran's IRGC Allegedly Directing Hezbollah Operations
Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam stated on March 22 that members of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) are directing Hezbollah's operations in its conflict with Israel. In a televised interview, Prime Minister Salam fiercely criticized Hezbollah for drawing Lebanon into the Middle East conflict by firing rockets at Israel. He noted, "This battle was declared as retaliation for the assassination of Supreme Leader Khamenei. In other words, this fight has been imposed upon us."
Iranian Involvement and Lebanese Government Response
Prime Minister Salam also referenced an incident earlier this month where an Iranian-made drone attacked a British military base in Cyprus, stating, "It was the Revolutionary Guard that did it. They are stationed in Lebanon and are, unfortunately, managing military operations." He added that they entered the country illegally using forged passports. This month, the Lebanese government decided to ban all activities of the IRGC within the country and took an unprecedented step of prohibiting Hezbollah's military actions and demanding the group surrender its weapons to the state.
