Iran Threatens 'Water War' With Strikes on Key Desalination Plants
Iran's Threat to Desalination Facilities
A UN official has warned that Iran is prepared to strike critical desalination infrastructure across the Middle East within days. Kaveh Madani, an Iranian scientist and UN official, stated that such an attack could trigger a broader regional water crisis and impact global markets, escalating tensions with the U.S. and Israel.
Escalating Tensions and Economic Repercussions
The Iranian regime's threats came in response to U.S. President Donald Trump's warning that the U.S. would hit Iranian power infrastructure unless the Strait of Hormuz was opened within 48 hours. Iran warned that if its fuel and energy infrastructure is attacked, it would target all energy, information technology, and desalination infrastructure belonging to the U.S. and its allies in the region. Madani emphasized that the driest region of the world could face a real 'water war,' with immediate and lasting effects on the global economy, including the U.S. Desalination facilities on Iranโs Qeshm Island and in Bahrain have reportedly already been struck.
