ECB Monitors Inflation Impact of Iran War
Luis de Guindos, Vice President of the European Central Bank (ECB), stated on the 23rd that the ECB is wary of the secondary effects the Iran war could have on inflation. April Monetary Policy Meeting to Be Influenced
De Guindos noted that more data would be gathered for the upcoming April monetary policy meeting, and decisions would be made considering the Iran war as the biggest factor of uncertainty. Other ECB policymakers, including Joachim Nagel, President of the Deutsche Bundesbank, also indicated last week that the ECB might need to consider interest rate hikes at next month's meeting if inflationary pressures increase. De Guindos's term is set to end in late May, making the April meeting likely his last.
