Hong Kong Police Fire 5 Shots to Subdue Knife-Wielding Man
Knife Attack Incident and Police Response
Around 1 AM on January 19, Senior Superintendent Yao Yongqin of the New Territories South Regional Police announced that multiple reports were received about a man causing a disturbance with weapons on the Tsing Shan Road section near Pai Chung. The reports indicated that the man was wandering on the road and brandishing weapons at passing vehicles. The New Territories South Emergency Unit was immediately dispatched to the scene.
Police Action and Five Shots Fired
Upon arrival, the man suddenly emerged from the bushes and charged at police officers while brandishing weapons. Police issued verbal warnings and used pepper spray, but the man continued his aggressive behavior, shouting 'I'll kill you' and threatening officers. The man was reportedly carrying a knife approximately 20 inches long and an iron rod about 1 meter long. Ultimately, three police officers fired a total of five shots to subdue him. The first officer fired two shots, the second officer one, and the third officer two, with distances ranging from approximately 2 to 5 meters. Police added that despite it being nighttime, streetlights provided sufficient visibility at the scene.
