China's AI Industry Expands Hiring for Liberal Arts Talent, Offering High Salaries
New Demand for Talent in the AI Industry
Historically, liberal arts graduates in China faced poorer job prospects compared to STEM graduates, with a general consensus to favor science and engineering fields. However, with the rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology, the job market has recently seen changes. According to Hong Kong media reports, some AI companies have begun recruiting talent with backgrounds in humanities and social sciences, including Chinese language, journalism, philosophy, and sociology. Some positions are reportedly offering monthly salaries starting from RMB 30,000 (approximately 140,000 KRW), drawing significant attention.
Emergence of New Roles with Large Language Models
The rise of large language models and generative AI means that companies now require not only algorithm engineers but also individuals with strong language comprehension, cultural understanding, and content judgment skills. These talents are primarily involved in model training and content evaluation. Consequently, new roles such as 'AI Trainer,' 'AI Content Evaluator,' and 'AI Narrative Designer' have emerged. Some recruitment advertisements explicitly list relevant backgrounds in Chinese language, journalism, or social sciences as a requirement.
