Asiana Airlines Significantly Increases April International Fuel Surcharge

Asiana Airlines announced today (16th) that it would significantly increase fuel surcharges for international flights departing from Korea next month (April), to three times the current level, due to the impact of rising international oil prices caused by the Middle East situation. The surcharge for the shortest route, Fukuoka, will increase from 14,600 won to 43,900 won, and for the longest route, LA, it will range from 78,600 won to 251,900 won. This is expected to significantly increase the financial burden on air travelers.

Singapore Jet Fuel Average Price Soars, Nearing Record Highs

Asiana Airlines stated that the average price of Singapore jet fuel, which is the basis for fuel surcharges, surged 12 stages from 6 stages last month, now corresponding to 18 stages out of 33 stages. This increase is the highest since the 22 stages recorded in August 2022, during the height of the Russia-Ukraine war, indicating that international geopolitical instability is directly impacting air ticket prices. Korean Air is also scheduled to announce its April fuel surcharges this afternoon.
