A tragic fire broke out in the trauma center of a hospital in Cuttack, Odisha, India, claiming the lives of at least 10 people. An additional 11 individuals suffered burn injuries. The incident occurred between 2 AM and 3 AM local time in the hospital's ICU ward, where critically ill patients were being treated. Multiple fire engines were dispatched to the scene to combat the blaze and conduct rescue operations.
Challenges in Patient Rescue and Government Response
According to reports, multiple injuries occurred as hospital staff attempted to rescue patients, most of whom were on ventilator and oxygen support, making swift relocation difficult. Shortly after the incident, the Odisha Chief Minister visited the hospital to review the situation. The state government has announced an ex-gratia of 25 lakh rupees for the families of the victims.
