Iran's Instability Impacts Japanese School Operations

The Tehran Japanese School, led by Principal Takayuki Nishida (61) from Hyogo Prefecture, has been significantly affected by the escalating protests due to Iran's deteriorating economic situation and the outbreak of war. The completion ceremony, originally planned for Tehran, was instead held in Tokyo, Japan, due to the unstable local conditions. The principal had entrusted graduation certificates to local staff before returning to Japan but was unable to go back to Tehran. Some students temporarily transferred to Japanese schools after their sudden return.

War Forces Evacuation, Academic Year Concludes in Japan

Principal Nishida first returned to Japan in June of last year due to the '12-day war' with Israel, and after a brief return to Iran in late November, he was again forced to evacuate within 1.5 months, marking his fourth return during his three-year tenure. The outbreak of war on February 28, following attacks by the United States and Israel, made his return to Tehran virtually impossible. The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology consequently instructed all dispatched teachers to return, and students also evacuated, forcing the academic year to conclude in Japan. Despite the chaotic circumstances, Principal Nishida strove to provide a warm send-off for his students.
