Large-Scale Anti-US, Anti-Israel Protest in Tehran; Israel Raids Near Rally Site
Large-Scale Protest in Tehran and Israeli Airstrikes
In Tehran, the capital of Iran, a large-scale demonstration vowing a decisive struggle against the United States and Israel was held on the 13th local time. Protesters expressed their anger by burning U.S. flags and Israeli flags. According to an Iranian state TV reporter, Israeli airstrikes continued near Ferdowsi Square in southern Tehran even as an Iranian judicial official was being interviewed. Iran's Chief Justice, Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, stated that 'the people are not afraid of such roars and will never retreat from missile attacks.'
International Quds Day: A Roar of Solidarity and Resistance
The rally coincided with International Quds Day, the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan. 'Quds' is an Islamic term for 'Jerusalem,' and the day aims to advocate for the liberation of Jerusalem from Israeli occupation and express solidarity with Palestine. Participants at the protest held pictures of the deceased Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and his successor and son, Mojtaba, vowing a decisive struggle. High-ranking Iranian officials, including Ali Larijani, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, and President Pezeshkian, also joined the demonstration, attracting significant international attention.
