Komeito to Field Independent Candidates in Unified Local Elections, Urges Stronger Centrist Alliance
Komeito Decides on Independent Candidacy
Komeito held an extraordinary party convention today (14th) and decided to field its own candidates in the unified local elections next spring, rather than joining a centrist reform coalition. Representative Takuya Takeya stated that to maximize the consolidation of centrist forces, Komeito and the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan would establish a consultation system at the prefectural headquarters level and cooperate as much as possible, each from their own stance.
Calls for Strengthening Three-Party Alliance
Representative Takeya criticized the ruling party for repeatedly engaging in arbitrary parliamentary management through 'tyranny of the majority,' referencing yesterday's (13th) passage of next year's budget bill despite opposition from opposition parties. He emphasized that to strictly monitor overbearing government operations, it is necessary to strengthen cooperation among the three parties: Chudo, Constitutional Democratic Party, and Komeito. He added that such an alliance could serve as a check on arbitrary government operations.
