Salvation Sect Allegedly Engaged in Political Activities, Supporting Former President Yoon Suk-yeol

Controversy Over 'Salvation Sect's' Political Involvement

Reports indicate that the Good News Mission, a branch of the Salvation Sect (Guwonpa) that faced criticism during the Sewol Ferry disaster, is actively engaging in political activities beyond its religious functions. It has been confirmed that they participated in protests opposing the impeachment of former President Yoon Suk-yeol and promoted a specific political faction. The Salvation Sect, once seemingly faded from public memory, is drawing renewed attention due to its political involvement.

'Yunbi-eogeonga' and Youth Group's Endorsement

At an event hosted by the International Youth Fellowship (IYF), founded by Pastor Park Ock-soo of the Salvation Sect's Good News Mission, a song titled 'Yunbi-eogeonga' (Ode to Yoon) was performed. Subtitles in the song's video displayed the message: "President Yoon, thank you, we love you!" The lyrics depicted a person who received 'wounds despite sincerity' as former President Yoon Suk-yeol. A representative of a conservative youth organization praised former President Yoon for 'responding to the nation's call during a crisis and enduring much hardship over the past two years,' expressing support and love. This is interpreted as overt support for former President Yoon Suk-yeol.

Allegations of Participation in Anti-Impeachment Protests

Allegations have surfaced that Salvation Sect members were mobilized to participate in anti-impeachment hunger strikes held in front of the Constitutional Court during the impeachment trial of former President Yoon Suk-yeol. The video shows members at the hunger strike site, and a Good News Mission official reportedly testified that he participated in the protest alongside Ms. Yoon. These activities have drawn criticism, suggesting that a religious organization is being used for the political activities of a specific faction. The organizations involved have not yet provided official responses to these allegations.
