Hanwha Aerospace, a leading South Korean defense company, announced on the 13th that it has signed a business agreement with Krafton, the developer of 'PUBG: Battlegrounds,' to jointly develop 'Physical AI.' This partnership aims to apply artificial intelligence technology trained in virtual environments to actual unmanned systems and robots. Both companies plan to establish a joint venture, combining their core capabilities to lead future technologies.
Technology Integration and Investment Plans
Hanwha Aerospace will contribute its defense manufacturing infrastructure and unmanned system technology, while Krafton will leverage its accumulated AI research capabilities, software development expertise, and virtual environment simulation experience from the gaming industry to support AI learning and validation. The two companies plan to expand their collaboration in stages, covering core 'Physical AI' technology R&D, verification and application scenario review, and the establishment of technology and operational systems. Beyond technical cooperation, a significant investment is also anticipated. Both companies will participate in a $1 billion (approximately 1.5 trillion KRW) fund established by Hanwha Asset Management, focusing investments on AI, robotics, and the defense sector.
