International Fraud Ring's Cambodia Hideout Uncovered, Multi-National Police Uniforms Found
International Fraud Ring's Hideout Discovered in Cambodia
A building believed to be a base for an international special fraud group was found in Northern Cambodia, near the Thai border. The site contained scattered broken computers, various documents, and leftover food, indicating recent occupation. Notably, Japanese fraud manuals and memos detailing bank names and amounts were discovered, suggesting the group targeted Japanese individuals. It is believed that the fraud group hastily fled following a military clash between Thailand and Cambodia in December of last year.
Multi-National Police Uniforms and Sophisticated Tactics
Inside the hideout, police officer uniforms from at least seven countries, including the Indonesian Police, Chinese Police, Singapore Police, Brazilian Police, and Vietnamese Police, were found. The group allegedly impersonated police officers to defraud people worldwide via phone. Offices designed to mimic Chinese and Singaporean police stations were also set up, indicating the highly sophisticated nature of their fraud schemes.
Spreading Damage in Japan and Cambodian Government Response
This special fraud has caused significant harm in Japan. According to the Japanese National Police Agency, over 10,000 cases of 'fake police scams' were reported last year, with damages reaching approximately 98.5 billion yen. Notably, the number of young victims in their 20s and 30s more than doubled compared to the previous year. The Cambodian government has announced plans to completely dismantle the fraud group's strongholds by next month. Since August of last year, Japanese individuals implicated in special fraud have been successively arrested in Cambodia.
