Hong Kong Students Propose Water Saving Methods on World Water Day
Major Causes of Water Wastage in Daily Life
In observance of World Water Day, Hong Kong students offered various opinions on where the most water is wasted in daily life. Some students identified the bathroom as the primary culprit for significant water waste, pointing out that flushing the toilet consumes a lot of water and that the habit of continuously flushing while washing hands exacerbates water wastage. Other students noted that leaving the shower running during showering leads to unnecessary water consumption, emphasizing the need for water conservation awareness even during personal hygiene activities.
Proposing Effective Water Saving Daily Habits
Hong Kong students shared practical water-saving ideas to reduce water wastage. They suggested choosing showers over bath tubs and collecting the cold water that runs before the shower in a bucket to use for watering plants or mopping floors. They also mentioned simple yet effective methods such as turning off the tap while washing hair and reducing shower time. They also offered a practical tip: reducing water waste by finishing all the water brought to school there, instead of taking it home and discarding it. In this way, the students stressed that even small changes in habits can lead to significant environmental protection effects.
