Screen Golf Drug and Manipulation Fraud Uncovered
Police have apprehended a group that secretly laced opponents' drinks with narcotic drugs during screen golf betting games and even manipulated the game screen to win. In a video, a man is seen adding lorazepam to a drink, then swapping it with the victim's beverage when they briefly left their seat. The group also used a remote control to manipulate the screen direction, intentionally causing out-of-bounds (OB) shots. Victims who consumed the drug experienced lethargy and a decline in golf performance.
₩74 Million in Damages Confirmed, Masterminds Arrested
The crimes came to light through cameras installed by the victims. The Criminal Investigation Division of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Regional Investigation Unit confirmed that the group had defrauded victims of a total of ₩74 million over 10 occasions for approximately six months, starting from December 2024. Police have arrested two ringleaders among the nine-member group and are currently investigating additional victims and accomplices. This incident is an intelligent drug fraud crime leveraging betting golf.
