Kim Byeong-gi Summoned for Third Police Questioning Over 13 Allegations, Including Second Son's Preferential Treatment
Third Police Summons and Key Allegations
Independent Rep. Kim Byeong-gi appeared before the police for the third time this morning for questioning. Rep. Kim had previously undergone intense questioning on two consecutive days, January 26th and 27th, but it is known that he had been coordinating with the police for an additional investigation date, as the total number of allegations surrounding him and his family reached 13.
In this latest investigation, police intensively questioned Rep. Kim regarding preferential treatment allegations concerning his second son's transfer to Sungsil University and employment at virtual asset exchange Bithumb. Rep. Kim is reported to have largely denied the related charges in the previous two investigations.
Political Funding Allegations and Confrontational Questioning of Related Parties
Furthermore, an in-depth investigation was conducted into allegations that Rep. Kim's wife received 30 million won in illegal political funding from two then-Dongjak-gu council members but later returned it. Ahead of Rep. Kim's third summons for questioning, police re-summoned Rep. Kim's second son to re-verify the related allegations.
In addition, former Dongjak-gu council member A, who claimed to have provided the political funding, and Lee Ji-hee, Vice Chairperson of the Dongjak-gu Council, suspected of acting as an intermediary in the process, were also summoned for confrontational questioning to determine the veracity of the allegations. Police plan to finalize Rep. Kim's legal status after comprehensively reviewing the results of today's third investigation.
