US Bombs Iran's Bandar Abbas, Second Attack in Three Days
US Military Strikes Iranian Port City, Downs Drones
The US military carried out an airstrike on the strategic southern Iranian port city of Bandar Abbas on the 27th, targeting a military stronghold. This marks the second attack on Iranian territory in three days. US Central Command (CENTCOM) stated it shot down four Iranian one-way attack drones that posed a threat around the Strait of Hormuz. According to CENTCOM, the military base in Bandar Abbas was struck just before the launch of a fifth drone.
Fragile Ceasefire Threatened Amid Self-Defense Claims
Both the United States and Iran are under an unstable ceasefire. The conflict, which began three months ago, has led to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz and a surge in global energy prices, prolonging negotiations for an end to hostilities. The US described the latest attack as an act of 'self-defense,' emphasizing it was a prudent and purely defensive measure aimed at maintaining the ceasefire. CENTCOM had also conducted self-defensive airstrikes on the 25th against an Iranian missile base and vessels attempting to lay mines in the Strait of Hormuz.
