Trump's Support Erodes Among Latino and Gen Z Voters
Significant Drop in Latino Voter Approval
President Donald Trump's approval rating has seen a substantial decrease among Latino voters. According to a New York Times/Siena College poll, Trump's approval among Latino voters stood at 20% on May 26, a sharp decline from 36% in April. Conversely, his disapproval rating rose from 59% in April to 71% in May. This shift is particularly concerning for the Republican Party in states with large Latino populations, such as Texas and Florida, where it could significantly impact midterm election outcomes. Some Republicans privately acknowledge that these numbers are "very bad" for their prospects.
Gen Z Men's Disillusionment with Trump
Trump is also facing growing skepticism from Gen Z men. A Yale Youth Poll indicates that only 27% of men aged 18-22 and 23-29 approve of Trump, with disapproval rates of 68% and 72% respectively. The New York Times highlighted the case of Owen Cheyne, a 21-year-old from rural Oregon, who expressed disappointment with Trump's tariffs and the constant focus on cultural war issues by the "manosphere." While these young men are not fully enamored with Democrats, they are increasingly participating in elections, demonstrating a demand for change due to concerns over economic issues like rent, groceries, and healthcare costs.
