Married At First Sight UK Faces 'Toxic Culture' And 'Sexual Focus' Allegations
'Married At First Sight UK' Accused of On-Set Rape and Sexual Focus
According to BBC News, former staff members of the popular reality show 'Married At First Sight UK' have come forward with allegations of a 'toxic culture' and an 'unhealthy focus on sex' on set. An anonymous ex-worker claimed that crew members placed bets on which couples would first sleep together, treating it as a 'joke'. They also alleged that producers intentionally tried to make cast members angry or upset to 'generate watchable drama'. Furthermore, a Panorama investigation revealed that two former cast members alleged they were raped during filming, and another reported a non-consensual sex act.
Channel 4 Removes Episodes, Initiates External Review
Following these serious allegations, all episodes of 'Married At First Sight UK' have been removed from Channel 4's streaming service. A major sponsor has also pulled out, leaving the fate of the latest filmed-but-unbroadcast series uncertain. CPL, the production company behind the show, stated that the allegations from five former workers represent a small minority of all crew members. They denied pressuring contributors or taking bets on couples' sexual activity. CPL also asserted that it does not prioritize entertainment over the welfare of its contributors. Channel 4 has commissioned an external review of contributor welfare on 'Married At First Sight UK', emphasizing that contributor welfare is always their primary concern.
