Trump Administration Pushes AI Cybersecurity, Safety Executive Order
AI Cybersecurity and Frontier Model Regulation
The Trump administration is preparing to release an executive order on cybersecurity and AI safety as early as this week. The order aims to bolster cybersecurity around advanced AI models and outlines plans for a voluntary framework for AI developers to inform the government about new releases. This move comes after cyber-capable models, such as Anthropic's 'Mythos,' raised government concerns about AI safety.
Collaboration Between Government and AI Industry
A key component of the executive order involves a government review process for 'covered frontier models.' Under a voluntary framework, AI labs would share their models with the government at least 90 days before public release and provide access to certain critical infrastructure providers. Both national security and civilian agencies are expected to play roles in enforcing the EO. The cybersecurity aspect includes strengthening systems for national security agencies like the Pentagon and enhancing security at critical facilities such as hospitals and banks.
