India Ranks Fifth Globally in Spam Call Wave, Dominated by Telemarketing and Scams
India Ranks Fifth in Global Spam Call Survey
A global report on spam and fraud calls places India among the top five most spammed countries. Based on data from Truecaller's more than 500 million global users, India recorded a spam intensity of 66%, ranking fifth globally after Indonesia, Chile, Vietnam, and Brazil. This indicates a significant issue with unsolicited calls across the country.
Drivers of Spam Calls and Expert Advice
In 2025 alone, over 68 billion spam and fraud calls were identified worldwide. In India, spam calls are primarily driven by telemarketing and sales activities, accounting for 36% of calls. Financial services contribute 18% to the spam volume, while scams make up 12%. Experts warn that the rise in spam is rapidly eroding trust in unknown calls as fraud and impersonation continue to increase. To mitigate risks, users are advised to employ caller ID and spam filter apps, refrain from sharing personal or bank details over unknown calls, and report suspicious numbers to help block future fraud attempts.
