HKUST Develops AI Pathology System for Accurate Cancer Detection, 97% Accuracy
AI-Powered Cancer Diagnosis System Developed
With nearly 20 million new cancer cases globally each year, pathological examination plays a crucial role in clinical diagnosis and treatment decisions. A research team led by Professor Li Xiaomeng, Assistant Professor in the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering and Deputy Director of the Medical Imaging and Image Analysis Research Center at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), recently developed an innovative Artificial Intelligence (AI) pathology analysis system. This system can accurately identify various types of cancer using only a tiny amount of samples, without requiring additional training.
High Accuracy and Applicability
The AI pathology analysis system developed by the research team demonstrated high performance, achieving an Area Under the Curve (AUC) accuracy of up to 97% in various tasks. This functions like a 'plug-and-play' smart diagnostic tool, expected to bring a breakthrough in the popularization of smart pathological diagnosis. This technology has the potential to significantly enhance the efficiency and accuracy of cancer diagnosis in medical practice.
