Guyang-ri Village's Solar Success Story
In Guyang-ri, a farming village of 70 households located about 90 minutes southeast of Seoul, a successful model for solar power has been established. The village's one-megawatt (MW) solar installation generates approximately 10 million won (US$6,800) in net profit each month. This income funds communal free lunches for residents six days a week. Jeon Joo-young, the village chief, notes that this initiative strengthens community bonds and solidarity, making life more enjoyable for residents.
