AI Adoption Surges in US Workplaces Amid Productivity Concerns; Education Initiatives Emerge
AI Adoption and Productivity Concerns in US Workplaces
A recent Gallup survey reveals that nearly half of US employees now use Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies in their jobs, marking a record high. The proportion of frequent AI users is also steadily increasing. However, the survey also highlighted that employees spend an average of 7.9 hours per week struggling to make these tools work or adjusting data, equivalent to 51 lost workdays annually. This suggests that while AI promises efficiency, it can also introduce new forms of inefficiency.
Corporate and Educational Efforts for AI Integration
Enterprises are also making efforts to integrate AI. While 41% of respondents reported their employers using AI for organizational improvement, only 26% stated they received clear communication regarding AI integration plans. Companies actively using AI and effectively communicating their plans experienced significant changes in employee numbers, with both hiring increases and layoffs being more pronounced in small and medium-sized enterprises. Concurrently, Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) will introduce two mandatory AI-related courses for undergraduates starting next academic year, focusing on AI co-creation training and ethics. This demonstrates educational institutions' proactive stance in enhancing skills necessary for the AI era.
