Number of Foreign Visitors to Japan Exceeds 3.6 Million in March, Record High
In March, the number of foreign visitors to Japan surpassed 3.6 million, setting a new record for the month, driven by a significant increase in tourists from Taiwan, Malaysia, and the United States during cherry blossom season.
Record High Foreign Visitors in March
According to the Japan National Tourism Organization, the number of foreign visitors to Japan in March reached 3,618,900. This marks a 3.5% increase compared to the same month last year, setting a new record for March. The surge was primarily driven by a significant increase in tourists from Taiwan, Malaysia, and the United States during the cherry blossom season.
Decline in Visitors from the Middle East
Conversely, the number of visitors from the Middle East saw a decline. In March, only 16,700 people from the Middle East visited Japan, a 30.6% decrease from the same period last year. This reduction is attributed to flight cancellations and reduced services due to the unstable Middle East situation.
