Sydney to Get First New Roman Catholic Cathedral in Over a Century
New Roman Catholic Cathedral Planned for Sydney
Sydney, Australia, is set to see its first new Roman Catholic Cathedral in over a century. Located in the northern suburb of Waitara, the cathedral will be part of a massive 7.7-hectare integrated precinct. Award-winning Irish architect Niall McLaughlin, recipient of the Royal Institute of British Architects’ Royal Gold Medal, will lead the design, marking a significant architectural development for the region.
Symbol of Unity for Broken Bay Diocese
The new cathedral is anticipated to serve as a unifying force for over 250,000 Catholics across more than two dozen parishes within the Diocese of Broken Bay. This diocese extends from the lower north shore to the Central Coast. The project aims to strengthen community ties and enhance spiritual life for the faithful in the area.
