Iran's Nuclear Ambitions: Over 400kg of Enriched Uranium Amidst Strikes
Iran's Nuclear Capacity and Uranium Stockpile
Despite weeks of intense strikes, questions persist regarding Iran's ability to develop a nuclear weapon. Iran is believed to possess over 400 kg of enriched uranium, with an estimated 440 kg according to Washington. A CIA assessment suggests this 60% pure uranium could be easily enriched to 90% weapons-grade using advanced centrifuges within 10 days to a couple of weeks. However, the International Atomic Energy Authority (IAEA) and the United States currently do not know the exact location of this uranium stockpile in Iran.
Hits on Key Nuclear Facilities and Uranium Movement
Iran's Natanz and Fordow nuclear facilities, which were bombed last year as part of 'Operation Midnight Hammer' in June 2025, were reportedly emptied beforehand. Satellite images have also shown uranium being moved out. It is suspected that the enriched uranium might be hidden somewhere in Isfahan, potentially stored in an undamaged underground facility as a distributed stockpile. At least four sites linked to Iran's nuclear program, including Natanz (nuclear enrichment), Isfahan (uranium storage and conversion), Tehran (missile and research hubs), Arak (Khondab) (heavy water reactor), and Ardakan (Yazd) (yellowcake production), have already been hit between last year and this year.
