Egypt Implements Energy Saving Measures Amid Gas Shortages
Energy Saving Measures Implemented
Egypt has ordered measures such as the early closure of shops and switching off street advertisements to conserve energy. This comes as the Middle East conflict disrupts global gas supplies and soaring energy prices make it difficult for Egypt to secure sufficient fuel. Hussein, an Alexandria resident, stated that it's part of their culture to finish work, have a rest, and then go out shopping or meet friends till late at night. He mentioned that closing shops early would have a commercial impact and expressed concerns about potential domestic disputes.
Reactions to Energy Policies
While some residents voiced concerns about the new restrictions clashing with Egypt's late-night social culture, others, like restaurant manager Yasser Hamido, support the measures. Hamido stated, 'We accept these measures because we know it's important for the country.' He added, 'We'll just have to adapt by resting some of our workers and rescheduling shifts.' He believes that while the efforts might be challenging initially, they will yield positive results in the long run, emphasizing that the entire system relies on energy.
