Middle East War Escalates with US Troop Deployment and Iran Ground Assault Preparations
Escalation of Middle East War and US Troop Deployment
The Middle East war is entering its second month, with thousands of American troops having arrived in the region. It has been four weeks since the US and Israel launched attacks on Iran, which have now spiraled into a wider conflict. The Iranian-backed Houthis in Yemen also joined the conflict over the weekend, further complicating the situation. The Washington Post reports that the Pentagon is preparing for a week-long ground assault into Iran, although President Donald Trump has yet to approve it. An additional 2,500 US troops have been deployed.
Lebanese Journalists Killed, Severe Casualties in Iran
In Lebanon, an overnight Israeli attack killed three journalists. Israel claimed that Lebanese journalist Ali Shuab from a Hezbollah-affiliated TV station was in fact from the military group's special forces, but his colleagues deny this. The Lebanese President condemned the attack as 'a brazen crime violating the most basic rules of international law.' Ebrahim Zolfaghari of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard warned that 'the region will turn into a graveyard for American soldiers.' In Iran, the human losses are catastrophic, with the Red Crescent reporting that the death toll has now passed 1,900. At least 200 babies under the age of 5 and 400-500 women have been killed, and most of the injured cases that reached hospitals were in extremely critical condition.
