'No Kings' Protests Escalate Nationwide Under Trump, Minneapolis to Host Largest Rally
The Rise of 'No Kings' Protests
'No Kings' protests have significantly escalated across the United States during President Trump's administration. Approximately 5 million people participated in these protests last June, followed by 7 million in October. This upcoming weekend, Minneapolis is slated to host the flagship protest, which is anticipated to be the largest single day of protest in American history.
Drivers of the Protest Movement
The widespread demonstrations are largely a reaction to numerous controversial policies and statements by President Trump. These include the bulldozing of the East Wing of the White House, attempts to arrest six Democratic members of Congress, the deliberate killing of survivors of bombings in the Caribbean (a war crime), the invasion of Venezuela to take its oil, initiating an 'apocalyptic war' with Iran, threatening to close the Kennedy Center, dismantling health insurance for millions of American families, attempting to make the Nobel Peace Prize winner give him her prize, seizing ballots from Atlanta, Georgia, and posting a video depicting President Obama and his wife as apes. Furthermore, incidents such as the deaths of Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti, and the case of Liam, have also fueled public discontent. Over 3,000 separate protests are planned across the country for this Saturday.
