Asian Allies Expected to Increase Reliance on US Energy

Following US attacks on Iran, Asian countries including South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan, which face difficulties importing Middle Eastern energy, are projected to increase their purchases of US energy. The US emphasizes that its allies no longer need to buy energy from 'terrorist states,' highlighting its own oil and natural gas as viable alternatives. This stance was articulated by US Secretary of the Interior, Doug Burgum, in an interview with CNBC.

Energy Hegemony Strategy and the Strait of Hormuz

Secretary Burgum previously announced a $57 billion energy deal with Japan during his visit to Tokyo on March 14, stating that these energy purchases by Asian allies are part of US President Donald Trump's energy hegemony policy. Matsuo Takehiko, Vice Minister for International Affairs at Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, noted that Iran has controlled the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial oil transport route, since the US attacks. He added that approximately 90% of Japan's oil imports pass through this strait. Matsuo emphasized the significant impact of the Iran war and stated that the US is the most promising alternative energy supplier for Asian nations.
