South Korea boosts security for BTS comeback concert at Gwanghwamun Square
Government enhances safety checks for BTS comeback concert
Ahead of BTS's comeback concert at Gwanghwamun Square, government officials, including the Minister of the Interior and Safety, conducted on-site safety inspections. The aim is to ensure public safety at the event, which is expected to draw hundreds of thousands of fans. The Minister of the Interior and Safety expressed the intention to showcase not only K-culture but also K-safety as a model.
Stadium-level security and traffic control plan
The concert, scheduled for March 25, is projected to attract up to 260,000 people. This marks the largest cultural event at Gwanghwamun Square since the 2002 and 2006 World Cup celebrations. In response, authorities are implementing a stadium-level crowd management plan, deploying approximately 6,500 police officers, around 800 emergency personnel, and over 100 pieces of rescue equipment, including ambulances. Major roads around Sejong-daero will be closed starting the night before the event, while nearby subway stations, including Gwanghwamun, Gyeongbokgung, and City Hall, will be bypassed during peak hours on the day of the concert. Furthermore, specialized response teams and reinforced surveillance systems are in place to prepare for worst-case scenarios, including terror threats.
BTS member RM urges fans to prioritize safety
BTS member RM urged fans to prioritize safety above all else. He requested cooperation with on-site staff, emphasizing that individual fan order and consideration will be key to making the event successful. On-site inspections also focused on potential bottlenecks, nearby construction zones, and the structural safety of stage equipment. Contingency plans for sudden crowd surges when BTS members appear have also been prepared.
