Iran-Qatar Gas Hubs Hit, Global Energy Supply Crisis Deepens
Middle East Conflict Shifts to Energy Infrastructure Targeting
Israel's attack on Iran's South Pars gas field and Tehran's retaliatory strikes on key energy infrastructure in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and most critically, Qatar's Ras Laffan Industrial City, mark a new phase in the Middle East conflict. This escalation moves beyond targeting military bases to directly attacking critical global gas supply infrastructure, heightening the risk of a worldwide energy crisis.
Qatar LNG Hub Strike Impacts Global Supply Chain
While the damage to Iran's South Pars gas field is primarily a domestic concern, the retaliatory attack on Qatar's Ras Laffan Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) export hub is causing global alarm. Ras Laffan processes gas from the North Field, responsible for approximately 20% of the global LNG supply. Analysts at Wood Mackenzie warn that damage to this complex could delay its restart and "fundamentally reshape the global LNG outlook." This development is particularly bad news for Europe, which has become heavily reliant on LNG. Major LNG consumers like Japan, Türkiye, and India are also expected to be affected.
