Unidentified Drones Spark Security Scare Over US Military Base Housing Top Officials
Unidentified Drones Trigger Security Scare and White House Emergency Review
A significant security scare has unfolded in Washington D.C. after unidentified drones were detected over Fort Lesley J. McNair, a critical US military installation. This base is notably home to top officials including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. According to The Washington Post, multiple drones were observed on at least one night in recent days, prompting a lockdown of the facility and an emergency review by the White House. Officials even discussed the potential relocation of both leaders due to the heightened security concerns. A Pentagon spokesperson, Sean Parnell, stated that the department cannot comment on the Secretary's movements for security reasons, deeming any reporting on such movements "grossly irresponsible."
Drone Origin Unknown Amidst Heightened Middle East Tensions
The origin of the drones remains undetermined by US officials. However, the incident is being treated with increased urgency given the current security environment and the ongoing conflict involving the US and Israel with Iran. This drone episode at Fort McNair is not an isolated event. Previously, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey and MacDill Air Force Base in Florida, the headquarters of US Central Command, both raised their force protection level to "Charlie," the second-highest designation, indicating intelligence suggesting a possible threat or attack. The FBI is also investigating a suspicious package that forced the temporary shutdown of the base's visitor center. Neither the Pentagon nor the US State Department has issued an official response to the Washington Post's report yet. The State Department has, however, ordered all US diplomatic posts worldwide to conduct immediate security reviews, citing the "ongoing and developing situation in the Middle East" and the potential for spillover effects.
