Senegal Football Federation: AFCON 2025 Title 'Cannot Be Taken Away'
FSF Rejects CAF's Decision
The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) stated firmly on Thursday that the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 title 'cannot be taken away' from Senegal. This follows a decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) earlier this week, ruling that Senegal had forfeited the chaotic final to Morocco by walking off the playing field. Abdoulaye Fall, President of the Senegalese Football Federation, emphasized, "We know very well that from a legal standpoint, Senegal cannot lose this match by forfeit, and we cannot take this title away from Senegal."
Appealing to CAS and Legal Support
Outraged by the ruling, the FSF announced its intention to bring the case before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Omar Diagne, Secretary General of the Senegalese National Olympic and Sports Committee, offered legal support, stating, "The Olympic Committee is at your disposal so that some of our lawyers, who know a lot about sports law, can join the pool of lawyers that you have already established so that today we can fight the battle at the Court of Arbitration for Sport so that victory can be returned to Senegal. And of that, we are sure and we are certain. God willing, the Court of Arbitration for Sport will rule in our favor." Court proceedings at the Switzerland-based CAS are lengthy, and reaching a verdict in the case will likely take more than a year. Meanwhile, Senegal's government has called for an investigation into the Confederation of African Football for suspected corruption.
