Top Iranian Officials Killed Since Iran War's Start
Senior Iranian Officials Killed in Ongoing Conflict
Israeli forces' killing of two top Iranian officials in separate strikes on Tuesday marked a major blow to Tehran's leadership, which has been decimated during the Iran war. National security chief Ali Larijani and Basij paramilitary commander Gholamreza Soleimani are among dozens of Iranian officials killed during the conflict. Many died alongside the late Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei on February 28, the first day of U.S. and Israeli airstrikes.
Timeline of Key Assassinations
On February 28, Israel's initial strikes killed seven senior defense and intelligence officials, targeting 30 top military and civilian leaders. In addition to Khamenei, his top security adviser, Ali Shamkhani, was killed, as were Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Cmdr. Mohammad Pakpour, Chief of Staff of the armed forces Abdolrahim Mousavi, and Defense Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh. On March 3, Majid ibn al-Reza, appointed as Nasirzadeh's replacement, was killed in an airstrike. Reza Khazaei, a top member of the IRGC's elite Quds Force, was killed in Beirut. Subsequent strikes on March 8 and March 12 in Beirut also claimed the lives of four IRGC officials and Abu Dhar Mohammadi, operations commander in the IRGC's missile unit within Hezbollah, respectively.
