Microsoft Reorganizes AI Assistant 'Copilot' Teams Amidst Intensifying Competition
Copilot Reorganization and Integration
Microsoft announced on March 17 (local time) a reorganization of its artificial intelligence (AI) assistant 'Copilot', integrating its previously separate enterprise and consumer teams. This restructuring is seen as a move to accelerate the adoption and expansion of Copilot amidst the rise of competing services such as Google's AI assistant 'Gemini' and Anthropic's 'Claude Co-work'.
Leadership Changes and Business Initiatives
Following the reorganization, Jacob Andreou, who has served as Vice President of AI Products and Growth since last year, will oversee the entire Copilot business, encompassing both enterprise and consumer segments. Additionally, senior executives Ryan Roslansky, Perry Clark, and Charles Lamanna will be in charge of the Microsoft 365 app and Copilot. Mustafa Suleyman, Microsoft's Head of AI, stated that this reorganization would allow him to focus all his energy on superintelligence initiatives, aiming to provide world-class models to Microsoft over the next five years.
CEO Satya Nadella previously announced at an earnings briefing in January that daily users of the 'Consumer Copilot' app had nearly tripled year-over-year, and annual users of the enterprise-focused 'Microsoft 365 Copilot', priced at $30 per month, had reached 15 million.
