Trump Urges S. Korea, Japan, China to Help Reopen Strait of Hormuz
Trump Calls for Alliance in Reopening Strait of Hormuz
U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday once again urged countries including South Korea to actively help reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump stated that the U.S. gets less than one percent of its oil from the strait, while Japan gets 95 percent, China 90 percent, and South Korea 35 percent. He further accused allies of showing low enthusiasm for the coalition and added that enthusiasm would matter to him.
China Trip Delay Amid Middle East Conflict
President Trump also announced that he has asked China to delay his planned visit to Beijing by about a month, feeling he needs to remain in the United States while the Middle East conflict continues. The Beijing trip had been scheduled for March 31 to April 2 for talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, which had been expected to help stabilize the rocky relations between the world's two largest economies. White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt said earlier in the day that the dates may be moved as Trump prioritizes overseeing the U.S. military operation against Iran.
