Iran Calls for Review of Gulf Ties, Denies Role in Saudi Oil Attacks
Iran Urges Serious Review of Gulf Relations
Iran has reportedly sought a serious review of its relations with Gulf states in light of the ongoing conflict with the United States and Israel. Alireza Enayati, Iran's Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, told Reuters that Iran and Gulf states are neighbours and cannot do without each other. He attributed the volatility witnessed in the region over the past five decades to an exclusionary approach and excessive reliance on external powers, calling for deep ties between the Gulf Cooperation Council's (GCC) six members, along with Iraq and Iran.
Denials Regarding Saudi Oil Attacks
The Iranian envoy denied that Iran was responsible for the strikes, including the one on the Ras Tanura refinery on the East Coast and numerous drone attacks on the Sheba oil field in Saudi Arabia. He stated that if Iran had carried them out, it would have announced it. He asserted that Tehran was only attacking US and Israeli targets and interests, describing the war as being imposed on Iran and the region. To resolve the conflict, he argued that the US and Israel must halt their attacks, and regional countries should not be involved.
Calls for Cooperation and International Guarantees
His statement follows remarks by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who just yesterday said his country was ready to meet with regional states and form a joint committee to investigate the nature of the attacked targets. In an exclusive with Xinhua News Agency, he even suggested that Tehran has intelligence data indicating the US and Israel are secretly attacking Gulf states. He stressed that international guarantees must be secured to prevent the recurrence of such conflicts and to ensure regional stability.
