US Attacks Kharg Island, Iran's Key Oil Hub

US President Donald Trump announced that on March 13, local time, the US launched one of the most powerful bombings in Middle Eastern history on Kharg Island, a strategic Iranian stronghold. He stated that all military targets on Kharg Island were completely destroyed, but oil infrastructure was spared. However, President Trump warned that if anyone interferes with passage through the Strait of Hormuz, he would immediately reconsider this decision, also threatening additional attacks next week. The New York Times and other media reported that approximately 2,500 US Marines aboard warships are moving to the Middle East.

Reward Offered for Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei

The US government has offered a reward of up to $10 million (approximately 15 billion KRW) for information on key leaders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), including Mojtaba Khamenei, who is believed to be Iran's next supreme leader. The US Secretary of Defense claimed that Mojtaba Khamenei was wounded and likely disfigured. Iranian government officials, however, countered through the New York Times that while Mojtaba sustained leg injuries, he remains lucid.

Iran Vows Retaliation Against US Attacks

Iran immediately declared retaliation in response to the attack on Kharg Island. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps issued a statement warning that if its oil facilities are attacked, the facilities of oil companies cooperating with the US will also be reduced to ashes. Furthermore, despite a bombing near the site of the International Quds Day anti-Israel protests in Tehran, which killed one woman, demonstrators continued to chant 'Death to America' and 'Death to Israel'. Iran's Chief Justice emphasized that 'the people are not afraid of such explosions' and vowed not to rest until the US is driven out of the Middle East.
