France's far-right National Rally (RN) successfully held onto its biggest city, Perpignan, in the first round of municipal elections. Louis Aliot was re-elected as mayor of the city, which has a population of 121,000 and is located near the Spanish border, in the initial vote.

Jordan Bardella, the head of the National Rally and a potential presidential candidate, called on voters to support his party's 'common sense and order' campaign in the final round of the elections. The party aims to take control of additional cities in the upcoming vote.
