Middle East War Enters 2nd Week: Israel-Iran Escalation, Leaders Issue Strong Warnings
Israel Launches Large-Scale Offensive on Iranian Regime Infrastructure
As the Middle East war reaches its 14th day, the conflict is expanding across the region. The Israeli military today launched a large-scale offensive against Iran, targeting government infrastructure in Tehran. Local residents reported powerful explosions that shook their homes. The Israeli forces stated they struck over 200 targets in western and central Iran, including missile launchers and defense systems, over the past 24 hours. Additionally, they announced strikes against Hezbollah terrorists in Beirut, Lebanon.
Iran's Retaliation and Leaders' Belligerent Statements
Iran continues its attacks against Israel and neighboring countries. Missiles were launched into Israel, injuring two people in the northern region. The Saudi Arabian Ministry of Defense reported shooting down two Iranian drones in its eastern region. Mojtaba Khamenei, Iran's new Supreme Leader, issued his first message, declaring an ultra-hardline response, stating that a review of a 'second front' (unexperienced and vulnerable to the enemy) is complete, and they will aggressively expand the front. Iran's Revolutionary Guard warned of burning and destroying Middle East oil facilities if their energy facilities and ports are attacked.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a press conference hours after Mojtaba's statement, warning that Mojtaba could 'become a target at any time' like his father (who died on the first day of the offensive). Netanyahu added a new war objective: the 'collapse of the Iranian regime' and the 'creation of conditions' for the Iranian people to overthrow theocratic rule. While stepping back from direct regime change, he emphasized it is up to the Iranian people. He also mentioned that top-tier Iranian nuclear scientists died in Israeli attacks, foreshadowing 'more attacks' to come. Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian proposed cease-fire conditions including recognition of Iran's legitimate rights, payment of reparations, and firm international guarantees against future aggression. U.S. President Donald Trump warned that his administration is 'completely destroying' the Iranian regime militarily, economically, and in all other aspects, adding, 'Watch what happens today.'
