Israel Restricts Al-Aqsa Mosque Access on Al-Quds Day
Al-Quds Day Marked Amidst Al-Aqsa Restrictions
Today marks the fourth and final Friday of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, coinciding with al-Quds Day, also known as Jerusalem Day. Traditionally, tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of Palestinians would make their way to prayers at Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem. However, this year, Israeli authorities have severely restricted access, leaving the compound empty and significantly altering the usual observance.
Reporting from the Occupied West Bank
Al-Quds Day is observed by many as a reminder of a city they believe is 'increasingly under attack'. Al Jazeera's Nida Ibrahim reported from Qalandiya, near Jerusalem, within the occupied West Bank, highlighting the profound impact of the Israeli restrictions. These measures have transformed a day of significant religious and political importance into a stark illustration of the ongoing challenges in the region.
