UN Security Council Adopts Resolution Demanding Iran Immediately Cease Gulf State Attacks
UN Security Council Urges Iran to Cease Attacks on Gulf States
The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has passed a resolution demanding Iran immediately cease its attacks on Gulf states. The resolution stipulated that Iran's attacks violate international law and pose a severe threat to international peace and security. The resolution was adopted with 13 votes in favor, 0 against, and 2 abstentions (China, Russia), and was registered as Resolution No. 2817 (2026).
Gulf states including Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Jordan have been subjected to Iranian attacks. Jamal Fares Alrowaiei, Bahrain's UN Ambassador, emphasized that the outcome demonstrates widespread international support for the countries in the region. The resolution also condemned all actions or threats by Iran to close, obstruct, or interfere with international navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical passage for global fuel trade.
Iran's Rejection and Escalating Regional Tensions
Iran strongly rejected the adoption of the resolution. Amir Saeid Iravani, Iran's UN Ambassador, criticized today's action as a severe blow to the Security Council's credibility and a blatant abuse aimed at pursuing the political agendas of certain member states. He added that the entities responsible for a cruel war of aggression against his country are not being addressed.
According to a news anchor, Iran launched attacks on Gulf states in retaliation for the death of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in a US-Israel coalition attack. These retaliatory attacks and the international community's response are escalating tensions in the Middle East region, raising growing concerns for international peace and security.
