Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon Again Rejects PPP Nomination, Keeps Pressure on Leader Jang Dong-hyuk
Mayor Oh Se-hoon Again Rejects People Power Party Nomination, Urges Party Change
Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon has once again refused to register for People Power Party (PPP) nomination, despite the party extending the application period by a day. Mayor Oh demanded strong party change and innovation from the party leadership, stating that the party cannot effectively contest elections in its current state. He emphasized that forming an innovation campaign committee early and implementing a personnel reshuffle are the best ways for the party to overcome its crisis. Mayor Oh stated that he met with the party leadership directly and made an earnest request, but has yet to receive a clear response.
Intra-Party Conflict Deepens, Oh Rules Out Independent Candidacy
While Mayor Oh refused nomination registration, he made it clear he would definitely run in the upcoming election, ruling out the possibility of an independent candidacy or not running at all. This is interpreted as a move to continue pressing the party leadership while also clearly asserting his intention to participate in the election. Meanwhile, Jang Dong-hyuk, the leader of the People Power Party, requested the Ethics Committee to refrain from discussing further disciplinary actions until after the local elections. Within the party, critical voices erupted regarding this move. PPP Lawmaker Bae Hyun-jin remarked, "It's a shallow ploy to save Go Seong-guk and Yoon Min-woo while blocking the annulment of Han Dong-hoon's disciplinary action and his return to the party." Lawmaker Na Kyung-won also expressed concern over Leader Jang's response, stating that "shaking up the party has gone too far."
